Honey, What Do You Need?

The world is getting dangerous –
"I think you need a gun.
What if someone broke in to your house?
What if someone wanted to kill your son?"

Who is that person, I asked naively.
Someone looking for drugs, or money?
I would just ask them plainly –
What is it you need, honey?

We don’t have much, what we have is yours.
My eyes would shift to put my son in sight
Let us help you get through this
While you save yourself tonight.

"But there are monsters out there –
Those that kill without a care."
Indeed, friend, there are,
But the truth is they are truly rare.

"But they exist, what if someone out there
Came into your life and killed your son.
You would want them dead –
You would want to hold the gun."

I think on this deeply, it's difficult –
There's somber sadness that cries,
and my next thought is enabled
by a hunting falcon in the skies.

Then in the process of justice,
I know my words, deep and true.
"You owe my son your life, not your death.
He was ready to do good, are you?"
